Installed ten of these in a 1/2" drywall ceiling. Used a 3-1/8" hole saw. They are short enough to fit if the ceiling has 2x6 joists. The electrical box works best with romex if you punch out the knockouts and use a romex strain relief. That way the wires are secured better as you work the unit into the hole. Snap-in eyeball housing holds the GU-10 lamp easily and securely and allows aiming. I replaced a few of the included 50-watt halogen lamps that run very hot with 6-watt 3-LED CREE MR-16 lamps that produce almost no heat but put out the same illumination. Very nice. These come with white painted trim. The tiny units make my old 6" can lights look really clunky and old fashioned.
